first time doing a brick outside of doing a triathlon although it’s been 20 years since i did a few sprint tris.
i’m toying with the idea of running a half-iron distance tri at the end of june. figuring that it’s a nice diversion until i gear up for the nyc marathon and all the training can be a base building intensity. i’ve got the base fitness and can probably will myself through but not sure i can get in enough swimming or biking to make it worth while. i hate to swim, hate to bike, i’m just goal driven and thought this would be good cross training. likelihood of this happening - 30% because i think i need to back off entirely on the running.
i got out my old 10 speed, pumped up the tires on friday, an old (not really safe) helmet, loaded bike into car on top of all the other junk for our long weekend in lake chelan, wa, planned a 10 mile bike with 3 mile run with goal of averaging 15 mph on bike and 9 min/mile run, and most importantly, remembered to take cell phone.
had a perfectly pleasant ride but blew a tube. lake chelan is a pretty decent place to ride but some areas have rock sliding and the road is an obstacle course of puncture wounds waiting to happen.
so it wasn’t much of a brick because i had about 45 minutes between the bike and run.
one good thing is that now i have a general idea of how to change a tube. i’m pretty sure i wouldn’t be able to get the damn thing on by myself but at least i know what to do.
