about me

I am Andrea Bonaccorsi and live in Seattle. I enjoy staying fit and living a healthy lifestyle. Most importantly I have a fantastic husband and 3 amazing daughters. I also work as a CPA specializing in tax. In my free time my 2 main sports are rowing and running. I used to be a competitive rower; now I mostly row for fun but I’m always up for a hard workout or race. Running has always been my cross training sport of choice. Unlike rowing it requires nothing more than a pair of shoes. Because my life is very hectic I enjoy my time alone when I work out.

I decided that 2008 would be the year of “me.” To that end I have entries for the Boston Marathon in April (qualified in Vegas last Dec.) and New York Marathon in Nov. (Mercer Island Half Marathon). My goal was sub 3:35 in Boston but I ran a 3:47. Long story short it was what I had in me on the day. I made a few mistakes but hope I can take what I learned and apply it next time.

In the days leading up to the Vegas Marathon I noticed some pain in my right ankle. Took a short break in Dec. 07 but I had to get back on it to be ready for Boston. MRI showed tendinosis in my right achilles tendon insertion point. I took a 6 week break from running and rowing early this summer but it did not recover. I went back to training mostly because it doesn’t hurt when I work out (go figure) but knew that I was playing with fire. I’ve been an athlete for over 20 years and was being shortsighted and stupid. I came full circle and am now on an official “break” and will not run NY this year. I’ll defer my entry to 2009 so all is not lost.

Next up is a bone scan to see if we can identify a specific source of irritation. In the meantime, I’ve been doing more strength and flexibility work, something I haven’t done in years - a decade really. Although I’m bummed about reworking my goals, I am always up for a new challenge.

Running Boston in April…. tax specialist / CPA… and April 15th… that is fact finding enough to know that you have some good life skills going on.

My own taxes took a couple days of workouts away.

The locals getting ready for Boston are about ready, good luck. If you need some motivation for the marathon, I would like to suggest going to www.steverunner.com and listen to the Katherine Switzer podcast (#136) it was one of his better podcasts yet.

Hi, I live in the Ravensdale area which is close to Cougar Mt. exactly where is the trail(s) that you run on. I’m always looking for something different that is outside AND scenic.

Hey, I saw that you used to row that’s awesome. I just finished up my college eligibility and have recently started triathlons. Seattle is beautiful we raced UW there last year at opening day. Where and when did you learn how to skull?

Hi Andrea,

Received your post - was nice to hear from you! I am indeed on E Coast and row out of PBC, Washington D.C. area. Always nice to meet another rower. Saw you are training for NYC Marathon - good luck and enjoy!
